This disused corner of the garden was rough tussock grass with thin soils on a bedrock.

The thin and poor soil would not have sustained vegetables so a decision was taken to remove the top soil & grass and level the area.  Then raised beds and a walk in fruit cage were built.  The design ensured that all beds were accessible for planting, maintaining and most importantly picking the crops.

The remaining areas was reseeded with grass and this can be mown throughout the year.  As the beds are on bedrock, there was no need to create stone paths.

Design & build was completed in Spring 2026, with fruit, veg and flowers grown throughout the summer.
